    WordPress 3.9 Themes Update

EDIT: Note that this article was written in time when WordPress 3.9 came out, however, the updating process is still relevant.

WordPress 3.9 brings some radical changes in the admin dashboard so we had to release updates for all of our themes to fix the bugs we spotted.

Updated versions of the themes are already available for download in your ThemeForest account. The updated versions also work fine on WordPress 3.8.x, so you are safe to update even now.

we will explain here how to update your themes to the latest version. Updating process differs based on whether you have modified your theme files or not.

1.) I have modified theme files directly

Updating the theme will overwrite your changes and customizations will be lost (note that this does not affect your content/theme options etc, those are safe).

In order to avoid that, you will want to only update the framework folder of your theme with the one provided in the updated theme package (here we assume modifications were not done in the framework folder itself, which is a very rare case). This can be done using a FTP client to access the server you are hosting your theme on.

Note: before doing anything, create a backup of your theme folder

How to update your themes/plugins using FTP: http://newtricks.me/uploading-wordpr...ith-filezilla/

Once you are in your wp-content/themes directory, open the folder of the theme you are updating and find there a 'framework' folder, that's the folder you will be replacing. First, select and delete that folder from your server using FTP.
Once deleted, extract the 'framework' folder from the zip of the theme you freshly downloaded form ThemeForest, and then upload it in place of the old folder. Once completed, check your WordPress dashboard (admin) and make sure everything works and looks good.

2.) I have not modified theme files directly

Note: before doing anything, create a backup of your theme folder

Updating your theme if you haven't modified any of the theme files is a much more simple process.

First, go to your Appearance -> Themes menu in WordPress Dashboard, deactivate the current theme and delete it (don't worry, your Theme Options and data won't get lost in this process).
Once deleted, simply install the latest version of the theme using upload method on the zip file you downloaded from ThemeForest (make sure the zip file only contains the theme folder and not the docs and other stuff which can be found in the full zip package).
