    Contact Form Stopped Working

    Hey guys,

unfortunately the contact form on my website: http://www.metternich-co.de/ stopped working. The theme is fully updated and I tried to install an SMTP plugin you recommended in another post about this problem.

Nothing worked so far. I need help urgently!

Hi, What do you mean exactly that it stopped working? It was working before but is no longer working? If so, then what changes in the meantime? (new plugin install, new updates, etc)
Also do you just not receive the mail? Do you get a success or error message on the theme front end? Will nee more details.

It gives you an error message "ERROR Please check your input fields". There's nothing wrong with any of my inputs and it doesn't work for other customers either. The contact form stopped working after an update to the latest Wordpress but everything else works just like always.

    Visia Version: 1.3.3 (latest)
    Wordpress: 4.9.1 (latest)

Could you log into my site and fix the issue from the inside please?

Hi, I can see that the theme gets a response from the server that there was a problem, so at lead the front end is working as it should. The problem is therefore somewhere in the back end, which means with WP itself or with your hosting(server config).

    Try the following:

    1. Contact your host and ask have any restrictions been placed on the mail() php function on your hosting space because your are not able to send email from your website form.

    2. Check your server!s PHP log for details of this error. It will give more clues of what's wrong.

    3. Try installing and configuring the SMTP plugin? It should make sending emails more reliable. For example this one: https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-mail-smtp/

Let me know what you find out.

    No Problem on Server Side

After multiple test emails got successfully delivered from the server we have to conclude that the error is fully based on the template. Please login to our site to fix the issue. The recommended plugin also didn't fix it.

    Please help!

I've checked again, and I can see the same as before, the theme's front end code, i.e. that which makes the forum work, is doing it's job. It gathers, validates the form content and send it to WP's back end. Then it gets a response "success:false" therefore it shows the failed message. This is all the theme's contact form code is meant to do.

So the problem is with WordPress and how it sends mail. This is a common problem which is usually solved by using an STMP plugin. Did you configure the plugin correctly and were you able to send a test email from inside the plugin's admin? What was the result or problem with the plugin. You could try an alternative STMP plugin also.

Did you contact your host about the issue as I suggested above, what was the result of this route?

Yes we did everything you asked for. I can't successfully configure the smtp plugin either. Could you give that a try? The hoster says the fault lies entirely on the templates software and provided the following which apparently shows the error:

    ozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/54.0.2840.71 Safari/537.36"

He also said that the test email could not have been sent without the mail() working perfectly.

I'm stuck in between the fronts now and rely on your help.

    Thanks in advance

Hi, Post your admin login details in this thread so we can login to your WordPress installation and investigate the issue via the admin. You can post this information privately in this thread by wrapping the info inside a "Hide" tag as follows:

Simply write your information into the post body as you would normally do. Then place the opening hide tag before your info, like this:

    [hide]

Then place the closing hide tag after your private info, like this:

    [/hide]

All info contained inside the hide tags will only be visible to forum staff

Here is what you would type in your post:

    [hide]

    url: http://yoursite.com/wp-admin
    username: admin
    password: yourpass

    [/hide]
